6/1/10 Logistics- Campsite/Cookout Day
Mileage: ~50, Dam loop
Riding for: Taylor Smith’s Dad
Riding buddies: Andrea, Emily, Mariana, Taylor
Favorite moment: Coasting through the rolling hills on Spicewood Springs (?)
Worst moment: Drinking the funky water out of the right water cooler at the first rest stop.
Road to be reckoned with: the “gentle incline” on 620
Quote of the day: “Be one with the hill.” - Taylor Smith quoting her old man!
Spotted on the road: Beautiful views from dam loop!
Tasted: Oranges provided by Arvin Akhavan, sagger extraordinaire
Post ride recovery: Is there such a thing as too much napping?
Lil nugget o knowledge: Sunscreen is great, but remember to reapply! My face is peeling…
Mileage: 75? 80? Out east
Riding for: Bert’s grandpa Antonio and uncle Antolino!
Riding buddies: Ana, Emily, Mariana, Sam
Favorite moment: Any time there was shade
Worst moment: Rubbing hot, liquid sunscreen onto my gritty, sweaty limbs
Road to be reckoned with: Riding down Blake Manor (?), not knowing when the next rest stop was!
Quote of the day: “Don’t get them.” - Dan’s advice on how to deal with saddle sores. Buttr up!
Spotted on the road: Emily powdering her booty, mariana butt’ring hers, and ana shakin hers while singing some fergie ferg song!
Tasted: Liquid peanut butter on hot sun-toasted bread, warm grape puresport
Post ride recovery: Ate the rest of my freebirds for lunch and then napped for 3 hours. Ruby made pasta for dinner! I also had some hello panda. Good carbs? Bad carbs? Yum carbs.
Lil nugget o knowledge: Naps are great i like them.
5/26/10 CAMP T4K DAY ONE
Mileage: 100! To Johnson City and back.
Riding for: Wen Zhu jie jie! Spent some time with her the weekend before camp t4k for Ruby’s graduation and she kept saying how amazed she was by what we’re doing. I’m amazed by her strength- such an incredible woman.
Riding buddies: Ana, Emily, Mariana / Charlie, Dyar, Gaydos, Mahek and Paul (towards the end)
Favorite moment: It’s a toss up between our low water crossing photo shoot and feeding horses at the rest stop!
Worst moment: Realizing I lost my ziploc baggie with Ruby’s apartment key, my debit card, and drivers license! Also maybe those last 20 miles.
Road to be reckoned with: Barton creek.. aka “The Hill of Redemption”
Quote of the day: “Git in yer man gear!” - Anonymous Truck Driver
Spotted on the road: Buncha Sierra Sistas! No Lance this time, unfortunately.
Tasted: PB(J), bananas, and Puresport. I guess we never really do jelly on these rides.
Post ride recovery gorge: Freebirds with Gaydos, Ana, and Mahek. Deeelicious!
Lil nugget o knowledge: Check your back pockets. Often. Also, Freebirds burritos are excellent with BBQ sauce. Thanks Mahek for that suggestion!
*got a call from a cyclist who found my stuff on the side of the road! Bicycle people are nice, i like them.
Freshhhh new jerseys! Slick.
Hello hello internet friends, welcome to my new blog!
I really tried to come up with a meaningful name for my blog, but it’s difficult to think of one that truly captures the essence of Texas 4000. After a major brainstorm session, I’ve settled on going with a slightly less serious title that pays homage to an insignificant, yet omnipresent, aspect of our journey this summer… Peanut butter.
I understand the title is a little misleading, maybe it seems like this is a nut butter enthusiast’s cooking blog haha… but do not be FOOLED! The only recipe you’ll be seeing here…is the recipe for an awesome summer of cancer butt-kickin’ on a two wheeled man and metal machine.
I wanted to start keeping one of these nifty e-things outside of the team website because I this space gives me more flexibility with how I can present things and what I can write about… and it allows comments!
Anyway… This is a relatively mundane post of me rambling. I’m typing on two hours of sleep (ohhh the joys of finals!) so I’ll crash any minute. But before I do, I just want to express how butter-my-chamois excited I am that t4k is going to be taking off soon! It’s been a really long year preparing for this and juggling academics with training/fundraising but we’ve made it. I am really amazed at how much progress we’ve made as a team. Seeing everything come together as it has is really incredible!
That’s all for today…
Take care be well eat healthy and smile!
